4:12 PM - Kappas???

Kappas???, originally uploaded by lbj79us.

I posted this onto Flickr before I returned home for the summer. It just hit me what this represents. I thought it was a fictional fraternity but I'm not sure how I came to this conclusion. Perhaps I was missing some information or it's just that some things like colors was starting to fit in. Either way I didn't know what this might be. Perhaps it was time to put it out there for others to confirm for me if possible...

Was there a Kappa Alpha Psi chapter at Morris Brown College?

12:08 PM - You Are 23 Years Old

You Are 23 Years Old

Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.

13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

2:50 PM - McClurg Court Cinemas

McClurg Court Cinemas, originally uploaded by lbj79us.

Back in the late 1980s I saw the movie Mississippi Burning at this theater in the Streeterville Neighborhood. Unfortunately this theater has been shuttered for years. Please not the Retail Space for Lease sign. About a block or two away is a newer much larger cineplex on Illinois Street.

8:31 PM - A poem-Broke

I don't know who wrote this poem but I heard this about 10 years ago when my best friend performed this back in high school. He did this in front of a classroom and he performed it, in costume, at a high school assembly. This is an interesting poem.

Uh! I sho am tired
Been walkin' since five this mornin'
Up and down, and then just ain't no jobs in this man's town
Answerin' them want ads not nary bit o' fun
'Cause 'fore you gets there, ten thousand and one
Done beat you to de place, standin outside de do'
And one old funny boy said, "I'll work at any price
Just only providin' de bossman is nice!"
You all out there laughin', but that ain't no joke-
When you're broke.

Last job I had, went to work at five in de mornin' or little mo'
And de man come tellin' me I better get there at fo'!
I mean four before daylight-s'pose to've done hit go first stroke-
Folks sho is gettin' har on you-just 'cause you broke
So I say, "Mister, I ain't no sweepin' machine."
So de man say, "I'll get somebody else, then, to clean"-
So here I is, broke

11:45 PM - BBQ

On the day after the Fourth of July I just so happened to decide to fire up the grill. It would have been right on the holiday except for a few unforseen plans that had nothing to do with me bar-b-queing.

In any case this is the grill. A Weber's Smokey Joe. Just small enough for a small picnic. Enough for my purposes I'm just now learning how to BBQ.

This was my first attempt on that day. The steaks (two ribeyes and a T-bone) look nice don't they, but they weren't done to my satisfaction. In fact the grill wasn't even hot enough to continue cooking. The coals had effectively burned out.

Thus I had to put the steaks in the oven and then continue to cook them. I had at least got it started but I couldn't finish the job. I had basically blamed the store brand charcoal. The type that allows me to set fire to the bag. Well over the weekend I bought a small bag of Kingsford Charcoal in hopes of solving this problem.

This was today's attempt at cooking a steak. It looks good don't it. I cooked this steak along with four hamburgers. They tasted like it was grilled too. So for once this grilling is the result of a job well done.

Thank you Kingsford Charcoal and thank you Picasa for being a lifesaver. I was having trouble committing these pictures for publishing on the blog. I'm finally able to do it. Posted by Picasa

10:57 PM - How Lucky Are You?

Your Luck Quotient: 51%

You have an average luck quotient.
There's been times when you've been extremely lucky... but also times when you've been very unlucky.
You probably know that you can make your own luck in life, if you're open to it.
So listen to your intuition as much as you can. It's right more often than you might expect.

10:13 AM - Freedom: My Anti-Gov

I found this video from YouTube. And check out this description...

http://www.bureaucrash.com

"[M]an is not free unless government is limited. There's a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts."

http://antiwar.com/paul/?articleid=4737

"The problem is that democracy is not freedom... Yet how many Americans know that the word "democracy" is found neither in the Constitution nor the Declaration of Independence, our very founding documents?"

"Simply put, freedom is the absence of government coercion...Few Americans understand that all government action is inherently coercive."

"We must reassert that America is a republic, not a democracy, and remind ourselves that the Constitution places limits on government that no majority can overrule. We must resist any use of the word "freedom" to describe state action. We must reject the current meaningless designations of "liberals" and "conservatives," in favor of an accurate term for both: statists."

2:12 PM - Stroger RV

Stroger RV, originally uploaded by lbj79us.

In light of recent news with regards to Cook County Board President John Stroger's health and the maneuvers to replace him at Cook County in his positions as President and Commissioner it looks unlikely that this RV is going anywhere any time soon. I'm thinking this was created in time for the primary and maybe even with the hope that he'll be back from his illness but it's looking less and less likely. Consider this the last episode of his saga unfortunately.
