6:56 PM - Run DMC - You Talk Too Much

You know perhaps we should look at a little hip-hop here. I don't mind and this is one example of rap and hip-hop the way it used to be. Perhaps in real life this is exactly what you might want to say to someone who can't help but keep running their mouths.

10:20 PM - First anniversary!!!

I just celebrated one over at It's My Mind now another anniversary worth celebrating here at the Eye. It's having something of an identity crisis at the moment. It went from more photoblogging to text blogging to ususally videos. Videos about anything perhaps vacation video, video from my favorite TV series, or music videos. The photos have been random but since last year this has been a repository of vacation photographs. Then I introduced Blog Things.

Hopefully year two will be another year in the life of this blog.

Check out my first post here.

And check out the history lesson.

4:31 PM - What Year Do You Belong In?

You Belong in 1971

If you scored...

1950 - 1959: You're fun loving, romantic, and more than a little innocent. See you at the drive in!

1960 - 1969: You are a free spirit with a huge heart. Love, peace, and happiness rule - oh, and drugs too.

1970 - 1979: Bold and brash, you take life by the horns. Whether you're partying or protesting, you give it your all!

1980 - 1989: Wild, over the top, and just a little bit cheesy. You're colorful at night - and successful during the day.

1990 - 1999: With you anything goes! You're grunge one day, ghetto fabulous the next. It's all good!

7:34 AM - Homicide: Life on the Streets

A very chilling clip a teenage murder suspect. See who else he wanted to off. Almost sad that this is really the first time I paid attention to Homicide. I heard good things about this show.

12:00 AM - Bears fight song is back w/ the Super Bowl Shuffle!!!

Been looking for this for a while. It used to be available at ChicagoBears.com but they do have that link anymore. But it did find it at a fan site for the Bears, BearsPod.com.

They feature audio podcasts or programs for Bears fans everywhere. Also I have a reason to watch the Bears for a change. Perhaps whenever I'm near a computer I should try to listen in on few games online. Especially since I may not be able to watch them on TV here in Atlanta. Ah modern technology.

Oh yeah here's some lyrics and an audio file. I just wish there was a way to save the recording...

Bear down, Chicago Bears, make every play clear the way to victory;
Bear down, Chicago Bears, put up a fight with a might so fearlessly.
We’ll never forget the way you thrilled the nation with your T-formation.
Bear down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you’re wearing the crown.
You’re the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears, bear down.
Oh yeah and hear a rendition from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

UPDATE: The Bears from 1985 do their Super Bowl Shuffle...

1:48 PM - Sun-Times Box

Sun-Times Box, originally uploaded by lbj79us.

This is one of my favorite pictures. I took this picture last year on the campus of Chicago State University. An old Chicago Sun-Times box. It didn't appear to hold any newspapers anymore. Just sitting there on campus rusting. Across from it is a brand new Chicago Tribune box that was in use. I should have had a picture of that too, it just didn't catch my interest.

12:42 PM - Doctor Who - Robot - Classic Clip

Thanks to YouTube, I've become a Doctor Who fan. I do barely recall this series being shown on Channel 11 WTTW back in the 80s but I was too young to understand the show. Now I'm at the mode where I can appreciate it better. It took me a while to understand Star Trek for sure.

BTW, I saw Tom Baker's last appearance as The Doctor (as he is often referred to in the series)in the episode Logopolis where he fell to his death and regenerated into Peter Davison who became the next Doctor. Tom Baker was said to be very popular and many fans were sad to see him go. This being the first time I ever watched him in a full episode I was even sad.

This video was from Baker's first episode Robot. The ending of this particular clip is pretty unusual. You might like it. Might even give you a smile.

11:35 AM - Clouds

Clouds, originally uploaded by lbj79us.

I was on the train leaving Texas and I just had to take this shot of this cloud formation. And it was by coincidence that I took this picture over a body of water. Nice shot if I must say.

8:00 PM - I went to a Catholic Church for the first time...

On Wednesday night I went to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church located in the Bronzeville (also known as the Black Metropolis because it is a historic black neighborhood) neighborhood at about 41st & Michigan Avenue. And don't think I went to mass, it was actually for a memorial service of a family friend. And I thought it was nice.

The church was a lot more intimate than I'm used to. A nice pit with a table where the candles were lit and the podium in the background with a water fountain in the back. A big chair for the pastor. The benches were arranged in an unusual pattern that created a pit. It was arranged in the usual two rows of pews with a center aisle and outside aisle. I'm think I should find my way to a Catholic Church service one day.

I want to share this song that we sung during the memorial service there. It was nice.

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms

What a fellowship! What a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms!
What a blessedness! What a peace is mine, leaning on the everlasting arms!

Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning leaning on the everlasting arms.
Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, leaning on the everlasting arms!
Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day, leaning on the everlasting arms! [REFRAIN]

What have I to dread? What have I to fear, leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, leaning on th everlasting arms! [REFRAIN]

11:32 PM - Keep your butt in school!!!

When I was in Texas during the Christmas holidays I just so happened to catch up with In Living Color. This show was years ahead of it's time and I wish that this show could come back in some way shape or form. The time is ripe for black ethnic themed sketch comedy show. And hopefully it's better than many of today's programming geared towards a black audience.

Either way you will love this sketch. The ranting and raving of non-sense by this man played by Damon Wayans is hilarious, but you'll love the message. A take off sort of from the United Negro College Fund so aptly renamed for the purposes of this sketch.

In Living Color aired between 1990 and 1994 and the only contemporary of this show I see today is Chapelle's Show. That's one show that has me rolling every now and then. It would be great if I search YouTube enough that I'll find me a great clip from that Comedy Central program. It's just unfortunate that you don't see that on broadcast TV.

6:39 PM - What European City Do You Belong In?

You Belong in Amsterdam

A little old fashioned, a little modern - you're the best of both worlds. And so is Amsterdam.
Whether you want to be a squatter graffiti artist or a great novelist, Amsterdam has all that you want in Europe (in one small city).
What European City Do You Belong In?

Yeah I think I should brush up on the Dutch language then, yes.

10:42 AM - Photos from Dallas' Dealy Plaza

The day we left we took a drive around downtown Dallas. We went to the site of the Kennedy assassination which was on Elm Street. Thus I took pictures of the Texas Schoolbook Depository and the Grassy Noll. Great to be at the site of an historic event although for some this only recalls the sorrow of 1963. People still remember where they were when President Kennedy was shot.

This is the window on the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository. This is the window where Oswald was to taken his shots at President Kennedy.

See that X. It marks the spot where Kennedy was hit by an assassin's bullet. The closeup is in the next photograph.

10:30 AM - Two pictures of Southfork Ranch

Outside of Dallas, Texas. This is where Dallas, the 1980s prime time soap opera was filmed. Back when it was in production it was a ranch. Today it's a convention center and certainly a tourist attraction.

11:57 PM - South Cottage Grove Avenue

Some pictures from summer of 2005. Just a small sample.
The Grand Ballroom near 63rd Street. The neighborhood looks rough but things are slowly but surely changing for the better. You can even book an event here if you must. Here's the website.

The intersection of 79th and Cottage Grove. If only I could show the nice buildings at this intersection. Especially to the right in this picture. In the building on the southwest corner is an office for the Illinois Attorney General. A closeup of the liquor store that you can see clearly on the left is the next picture

And this building was home to a black owned bank, Independence Bank but in the last decade this bank was sold to ShoreBank. I have only visited this building once in my lifetime and it was a showcase on the inside. I wonder how much of a showcase it is now that it is under new ownership. It's almost too bad that when I took this picture I was moving. Posted by Picasa

11:34 PM - I really miss last summer!!!

I got this image off the internet during the summer. For the first time I was going to BBQ. I had gotten a small grill and I was going to play around wil BBQ grilling last summer. This would commemorate the time.

I have pictures of my first attempts at BBQ-ing. The very first time I had to finish in the oven because the charcoal I was using (some generic storebrand BBQ that was the type you could use the bag to burn with it) just cooled off quickly. Since then I switched to Kingsford Charcoal.

Perhaps as the New Year continues and as winter continues to be chilly, I'll post some more warm weather pictures. Especially more BBQ pictures.
