11:58 PM - V-Log #6: My first original YouTube video
It's a Lumiere of sorts. A soundless somewhat fixed video of my train ride to Los Angeles, California. This day was July 20th, 2005. I was somewhere between Colorado and New Mexico when I took this video.
I haven't forsaken Blip.tv, but YouTube was the most convenient at this moment. I may post it up later. I'm going to get a handle on posting video on the internet.
There will be more to come. Old videos, new videos, and even recuts. Expect it to happen soon.
That's what I should start calling this blog since I seem to semi-frequently post pictures of videos of places that I have been so far.
BTW, I should figure out what's wrong with my text messaging on my phone so that I can start posting some of the mobile pics that I took when I left from Atlanta thru Birmingham to Memphis. It was a nice ride too and I would love to show off my pressed penny that has an outline of the state of Alabama and the words "The Beautiful" within it. I got it at a penny pressing maching at the Greyhound station in Birmingham.
The ride was nice especially on the way up because during the daytime I get to see some of the picturesque scencery thru the Alabama and Mississippi countryside heading west/northwest. It was a great ride that on the way back I'd have to sleep thru because I took a run during the nighttime and plus I was very sleepy anyway. I had a very hectic weekend getting to Memphis again.
Did I mention I already had passed thru almost two or so weeks earlier?
Anyway, I'm back on the grind again. And you know? I really like traveling I want to get into the mode where I can go somewhere everytime I get into a restless mood. I'd really like that. I'll get there in the near future.
A couple of pics from my hotel room in well, Mississippi (Tunica/Robinsonville in fact). These are two good photos of the river. I have a couple of others for the other times we cross. Driving to at least Memphis we will cross the river at two points. Once into Missouri and next crossing into Memphis, Tennessee.
I've been wanting to take a picture of a sign like this while I was down there, but unfortunately the car I was in was moving too fast. Better luck next time hopefully.
Anyway this sign is an indication of Mound Bayou, MS historical significance. This town was founded by ex-slaves and became an all black municipality having been incorporated in 1898. This is why I wanted to introduce this town to you.
Besides, I thought about this story I heard on cable access once where an old Irish talked about how since the Irish ran his ward in Chicago he thought the Irish ran the world. I have no doubt that some young kid in Mound Bayou thought that same way about the leaders he saw in Mound Bayou. He saw blacks on the city council and as mayor. Of course once he left this town, he would be very disappointed.

Mound Bayou, Mississippi isn't much different than many small towns around the country, struggling. THat's not to say there aren't people around to help build stuff that can benefit the town. Take this facility built by a local church. It's very nice too.
I couldn't get enough pics of the various signs and offices I saw down there over a week ago. For county board offices, sheriff, coroner, constable districts, prosecutors, governor, and the list goes on and on. I may post a few more pics of other political signs I saw down there. And in different places around town.
If you accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior then you walk into this pit and a minister will immerse you in some water and then you are Baptized. We were right behind Jerusalem Baptist Church in Mound Bayou, Mississippi.

This wall had clippings from the Bolivar Commercial with regards to Veteran's Day events in Bolivar County, Mississipi. The top center picture you see is of boxer Joe Louis. He must still be a hero in those parts.
The Hut is also known as the Montgomery Green Post 220 of the American Legion. A place for the military veterans of Mound Bayou to go socialize. My folks had a cook out at this place. I'll post some interior photos as well.
This was our last day in Los Angeles back in July 2005 when we visited the Proud Bird Restaurant just accross the street from LAX. I decided before I go in and eat to shoot video of these three old historic aircraft outside. One plane was flown by the famed Tuskeegee Airmen, another by an Israeli fighter pilot, and the last plane was flown over China by a group known as the Flying Tigers.
